For the second-straight season, we see two heavyweight teams duking it out in the Provincial Championship Final, only this time, the roles are reversed. The Vincent Massey Trojans and the St. Paul's Crusaders return to the scene of last year's incredible matchup that came down to the wire. The two teams met three times for the second straight year, in the same games, however the wins were reversed - Vincent Massey picked up their home tournament championship, as well as the WPG-1 Conference Championship, while St. Paul's rolled to a 12-0 conference record after picking up the regular season win in mid-January.
The Vincent Massey Trojans look to avenge last year's defeat in the final, and could very well do so, piling up wins at a breakneck pace, finishing with a 29-1 record - the only loss being the aforementioned regular season defeat. Averaging 96.4 points per game, while only allowing 66.6 points against, they outscored their opponents by an average of nearly 30 points per game all season long. Cracking the 100-point mark 12 times, while only falling below 80 once - back in December, the Trojans look to keep the mesh ablaze all night, as they look to pick up their first ever 4A title in their second appearance. Massey claims the number one player in the province - Kyler Filewich, for the second year in a row - but Jackson Tachinski (6) and Donald Stewart (10) also land in the class, making them the first top ten trio from one school in one year.
The St. Paul's Crusaders return to the title matchup for the third time in a row, the fifth time in the past six years and sixth time in the past 10, while looking for a repeat of last year. With a record of 27-2 - their only losses also being the aforementioned championships - the Crusaders know what's like to be on the big stage. Averaging a 95.7 point-per-game clip - second only to Massey, St. Paul's has managed to break the century mark eight times, and only failed to score 80 twice. They also have held their opponents under 70 points 13 times over their 29 games, good for a 73.5 point defense. St. Paul's also lands two players in the top 10 - Dontae Alexander (3) and Luke Cardinal (5).
Both schools have had plenty of success in recent sports history, with St. Paul's taking home the hockey title, while Vincent Massey took down the Cru in the 2018 WHSFL championship. Will the Crusaders repeat, and become the seventh team to go back-to-back? Or will the Trojans cap off a huge year with their first title? Monday night's final should be nothing short of yet another classic.
